My previous phone was a Nokia E90 Communicator. Big chunky phone but has an inbuilt keyboard and big fold open screen. Problem was it was just too big and chunky and a hassle to carry around. Also its web browser was quite poor at displaying pages correctly and painfully slow.

So after much deliberation about the costs I decided to get an iPhone on an Orange contract. Afterwards but before it arrived I read horror stories about how its GPS was next to useless and its battery ran out in just a few hours. I remember thinking how stupid I had been but too late now....

However when it arrived I found the GPS actually very good and the battery lasted a good day or two with moderate use.

I've had it just over a week now and absolutely delighted with it. The GPS picks up signals even indoors and its very quick to find the location. I compared with my Nokia E90 - the E90 took 3 minutes to a get an exact fix - the iPhone 3GS got a rough fix in around 5 - 10 seconds and within 30 seconds had my exact location. I like the fact the iPhone has a compass - which means Google Maps displays not only your location but which direction your pointing.

I compared the web browsers on the two phones. The E90 took 78 seconds to load the BBC home page ( over a WiFi connection ). The iPhone took 8 seconds - almost 10 times faster! Also the iPhone 100% correctly displayed the page - the E90 made a right dogs dinner of it and the page was barely usable.

The iPhone is much more pocket friendly than the old Nokia E90.

There's also so many useful downloadable apps for the iPhone - I did go slightly OTT and bought quite a few but many of them are very useful - some also free.

Its not without its flaws - none of them are show stoppers. One flaw is the lack of read receipts with SMS messages - on the Nokia E90 you can specify a receipt when the receipient receives/reads the SMS - not possible on the iPhone.

Battery life is acceptable but it would be nice if it could last 2 days of intensive use without a charge.

Looks great but not sure how robust it is - for example if dropped or used in the rain? Not going to risk it to find out but I do wonder.

Short and sweet.
These earphones are cheap but work very well indeed!
1) Their sound quality is SO much better than ipods standard white lead jobbies (and to think, not so long ago a white headphone lead was a status symbol! I just smile at people flashing their white headphone leads now!)
2) They actually stay in your ears - you can jog or go to the gym with these in - no bother.
