The Aspire one is more than just another ultra-mobile notebook: its an all-new communication device designed to deliver continuous access to the internet and a simplified wireless experience no matter where you are. The Aspire one was designed to get you online in no time at all and thanks to the LinpusTM Linux® Lite operating system, start up and shut down times are reduced to the minimum. With the Aspire one running on Linux environment, the simplicity continues with the intuitive and specifically optimized software interface. Acer's Aspire One is equipped with an Intel Atom processor, specially designed for low-cost UMPC's, and runs on both Linux and Windows. Other features include an 8.9-inch screen, from 1GB of RAM, a built-in WiFi connection and expandable memory upto 4 gigabytes.
Absolutely charmed. Go on, you'll be respected in the morning, 2008-09-20 Committing to any electrical or mechanical device these days seems to entail putting your whole value-belief system out there for folk to sneer at. Moreover, given how much I tend to spend on PC magazines ensuring I don't make an expensive mistake, I might've had enough to go buy a MacBook Air. Heck, a Porsche 911 Turbo. But thanks to all reviewers on all forums hither and yon for turning me into a spontaneous conspicious Acer consumer and hang what anyone thinks. I'm still beaming.
My 6yr old Multivision 17in 3.5kg XP laptop became my partner's property this afternoon, while I loitered impatiently in Tesco deciding on Linux v XP, 8Gb Flash v 120Gb HD. Sorry Amazon, you got the books order earlier this week, but Tesco came in £1.99 cheaper in the end and I couldn't wait: guy fetched the white one from the stockroom.
In the final analysis, HD/Linux won out and even though I've had the A150-Aw for all of three hours, I gotta say this is one impressive (light) piece of kit. Surprise gift straight out the box: battery was holding 90% charge implying 1:56hrs playtime remaining so fun ensued. My laptop use is predominantly PowerPoint/Video editing for training purposes, so as my XDA Orbit handles the email, calendar and note scribbling, I couldn't justify like for like replacement costs for my hefty Multivision. Key issue for me was faster and lighter the better. Irony is, I spent most of the last few months agonising about switching to an iPhone 3G at higher cost. Guess my Apple yearnings will have to wait, the Acer for £248 was just too good to ignore. So, it's Open Office Impress v PowerPoint let battle commence, can always drop in M$ if needed, XP and Office - the 120Gb HD will allow that.
Some of you may be thinking it's a tad early to be posting; wait until the bugs 'n gripes kick in, but I'll update in due course. Half the fun here is the chase. Now to the skinny:
Beautiful curves, white contrast with the black screen does it for me. Almost went for the Acer Gemstone 5920G for much the same reason. Responsive key action is excellent, touchpad isn't all that bad at all and I've got large hands. Keyboard layout is natural, not suffered any mis-keying. Wireless set-up took seconds (found my Sky router first time of asking); works perfectly. Adjustment to OpenOffice is pretty intuitive. Considered it a couple years ago but opted against; current version vastly improved and that's before v3 undergoing beta at present. All free, no more worries about losing XP support at some point, or having to be dragged screaming to Vista.
Best bit? Previous laptop boot-ups (and my desktop) are over seven minutes before action-ready. No big deal in the great scheme of things, but Einstein's hot stove theory of relativity means the anti-virus hook-up, XP start program load et al, feels like it matches an Apollo mission log check. And yes, I regularly defrag, clear temp files, cookies, pared the start config, etc. The AA1 clocked eleven SECONDS on six successive boots.
Nice screen only suffered in conservatory glare (hey look at that, sunshine, is..that...summer?). Ordinary room ambience, screen brightness a joy. Even my partner was impressed and that's saying something - she does the "uh-huh, hm-hm, oh boy, really, you don't say, yawn" bit usually.
Hard to think of compelling case against; battery life will be a decider in long run, but I tend to max out showcasing in under two hours anyway. That said, I'm looking forward to train, plane use now.

- Enjoy fluid images filled with intense colours thanks to the X193Wb TFT screen from Acer
- Its Acer Empowering technology provides a simple-to-use interface so you can easily choose and manage your computer's settings
- The X193Wb also features a 2,000:1 contrast rate and 300 cd/m² of brightness
Good monitor, 2008-12-19 I have only had the monitor for two days now so not an in depth review. Very easy to use as you would imagine. Just plug in the power VGA provided and you are away. On opening the box I was not too impressed by the size but once you start using it you can really see how much screen real estate it gives you.
I bought this to use with my 8.9" Acer Aspire One, which I will be getting for Christmas but until then I am using it with my 15.4" Packard Bell EasyNote. Although the jump up is only about 3.5" there is a lot more space on the screen, more than most will ever need I should imagine.
When I first started using the monitor I used it as my main monitor and did not use the monitor on my laptop. I thought at first that the colours were very bad so I extended the desktop onto the laptop and wow what a difference. In comparison the laptop screen (which I previously thought to be very good) is dim and lacks contrast even after lots of tweaking.
So to summarise:
Good size
Great picture quality
Easy to use
P.S
Please remember that this is after only 2 days of use.

great laptop, 2008-12-22 I bought this laptop for myself as a xmas gift and to be sincere its a collection of beauty and efficiency. The black finish makes it stands out and more attractive. Light weight and so portable.
It comes with 3gb ram, that is more than enough, even for gaming
It has acore 2 duo processor T5800 2.0GHz, 800mhz and 2mb L2 cache that is enough for any multitaxing you might think of.
HDD 160 thats large enough for me.
The graphics video card is that of Intel GM45 graphics card that came out 08/2008. For people intrested in gaming read more about the GM45.
The webcam is so unique and can function under low light with the use of the pre-installed webcam optimizer
Though it lacks bluetooth but this will only cost you £3.00 to buy here at amazon and install.
The wireless connection is the best have seen once installed, it has never, ever disconected even for once, compared to my Toshiba and my compaq hp.
Screen resolution is in HD and never freeze up no mater what u are doing
For this price, functions, beauty, efficiency(T5800 processor) and brand name, Its the best laptop to buy
The only fault i can see is the battery. It says 3hour but its not, though it shows 3hours, but runs down at 2hours if nothing is being processed and lesser if u are working on the system. But besides this, I can not fault the system

Just brilliant!, 2009-01-05 I would like to thank all the people who recommended this model on here. I debated whether to get the hard drive version, and don't usually go for the cheapest model available, but in this case there seemed no point in paying for bits you don't need. I think you have to carefully consider what you want this machine to do. For me, all I am going to use is the internet surfing, email, instant messaging and photo storage. The flash memory is plenty big enough for all that.
I've only had it a few hours and would like to point out a few things.
1. The screen is perfectly big enough, for example to view Youtube, and as I wear reading glasses it's simple to increase the print size.
2. Whole internet pages fit easily with no sideways scrolling.
3. The touchpad is excellent, very responsive, and the side buttons are no problem.
4. The machine is running really quietly, no fan noise as some people reported.
5. The Linux OS is dead easy to use - who wants to bother with Windows, Norton and the extra expense?
6. The iMSN messaging is great, just as easy to use as the 'real thing', with all my contacts accessible.
7. There's a link to hotmail built in, so I haven't bothered to configure my other email account yet.
So far so good. It's a fantastic little machine. And I'm glad I chose the white version as the keyboard is really clear.
I'm thrilled to bits with it - every woman should have one in her handbag!

great laptop, 2008-11-08 i brought this laptop about a week ago and i am very impressed with it so far.
the built in radeon hd 3470 graphics card provides very good game and movie graphics, combine this with the dual core 2ghz cpu's which puch out 4ghz of power and the 4gig of ram in this beast you get what you pay for.
the battery life is well over 2 hours on a full charge providing you are running the machine on the balenced power plan.
the only annoying thing i found with this machine was when i first set it up the touch sensitive media controll's that run along the right side of the keyboard are very easy to trip accidently which promts the media player to open every time but this is easily fixed by changing the setting in the controll pannel so there not as sensitive.
the built in speakers and subwoofer, (yes it has a subwoofer on the bottom of it) provide a decent level of sound and pretty sound good quality aswell.
also the built in webcam is of suprisingly good quality and has good resolution for a built in.
over all this laptop is very good and well worth the money. i hope this review has been helpful to anyone considering this machine.

Superb for what it is, 2008-12-16 I just bought my acer-one from amazon and fell in love with it straight away. I got the blue A110-Ab linux 512mb, 8gb flash drive version for £170. Despite never having owned a linux-based OS before, I was able to get this machine running and connected to my wi-fi within 5 minutes of opening the box. The acer-one linux setup and main screens are really easy to follow. The keyboard is nice like a fuller-sized laptop's. I clicked on the wi-fi icon and it showed me available signals, so I selected mine and gave it the password and it connected instantly to my house router despite my sitting 60 feet away in the shed at the end of the garden! The screen is very crisp, bright and clear, and machine is quiet, lightweight and very pretty. The power adapter is not as big as a standard laptop's (as a previous reviewer somewhat misleadingly stated) but is only about a third the size (compared to my current acer laptop and previous toshiba ones anyway). My one minor gripe is the left and right "mouse" (actually a touchpad) button keys, which are a tad small for my big fingers (surprisingly so seeing as the rest of the keyboard buttons are such a nice size), but I'm getting quickly used to them. And the touchpad and other settings all seemed fine straight out of the box.
I've also watched a couple of BBC news videos on it and played a couple of the pre-loaded games and find the processor, memory, graphics and video ability fine and smooth, and the sound was ok. And even at only 512mb the system seems quick (thanks to this being a lite linux and not windows xp or vista I guess). I think, like some reviewers have said and potential buyers should note: this is only a netbook and not a full-sized, full-featured and easily customisable laptop. You could buy the windows version and the bigger hard-drive for this netbook, ok, but it seems to me the further you go down such a route you'll be spending almost enough for a small laptop - so why not buy one of them instead?
With this machine you get all the basics - internet (firefox browser), email, webcam, word-processor, spreadsheets and presentations, a few games, a film and a music player and a photo manager. You also get an instant messenger, hotmail and google maps links already set up. And you get Paint (like MSPaint), a calender (like MS Outlook calender) and managers for your contacts, RSS, document files and downloads. And all of it in a tiny machine the size and weight of a hard-back novel.

Its really a acer, 2008-12-10 This emachines is the same as a Acer laptop but black. I have seen these is a major Supermarket and it is a Acer but black.
The Celeron Cpu's are slow I had a acer 5315 and got rid and it kept slowing down while trying to do most things and it had 2gb ram and Vista basic. Buy a better laptop if you can. And netbooks are very very slow at even loading webpages so stay away from them...

Great Monitor, 2008-12-31 I do a lot of digital art using photoshop and Vue6 software. The size of the screen makes it easier to see the picture, and move programmes around the screen.. The colour and contrast are excellent. If you have a graphics card with DVI, you will not be disappointed, the quality is fantastic. Setting up could not be easier, just plug and go. It came with all necessary leads, including the DVI cable plus standard monitor cable, and of course mains lead.
I had to give tis a 5* rating. (Looks good to)

Surprisingly Good, 2008-12-28 Had one of these for about 3 weeks now and I'm very pleased with it.
I bought the 1gb Linux system one and when it arrived it came with a 160GB hard drive instead of a 120GB Hard drive (even said 120gb on the box but 160gb was in it).
My intention was to get rid of linux and put XP on it so after a little play with linpus lite I read up on the net of how to put windows XP on it as I didnt own an external CD Drive.
Relatively easy to do using a memory card (and usb reader) 1GB.
Having made my card bootable and created a bootable XP using my XP disc it took about 30 mins max to install a full version of XP (not a nlite version)
Please note had a lot of problems getting XP on the card using a vista OS so tried a XP OS and worked fine
Once Installed I switched off system restore to save resources and XP runs great.
All XP drivers are available at the acer website.
I watched my daughter use it the other day. She had MSN going, playing an internet based game, and had a film running in the background all at the same time. Nothing ran slow... Very impressed.
Boot up time was about 4 seconds slower than the linux OS but still faster than my desktop 4gb AMD dual core 5200+ now its full of rubbish.
If ur thinking of one of these but not sure about linux then putting XP on it is easy - you will lose your backup partition but u get a recovery CD anyway
