Ever dreamt of being swept off your feet by some riduculously rich handsome man?

If you have, then this may just be the ideal film for you.

Pretty Womman captures the harshness of modern day life and flips it over into a world of fun, love, romance and laughter.

Meet Vivian, a young woman who has taken the wrong path in life, prostitution and scrambling around for the weeks rent.

Meet Edward, an unbearably handsomly rich man, own his own business yet is unhappy.

When the two meet the chemistry is clear, and the audience is plunged into a world of fantasy.

And the rest they say is history.....

I can only urge you to watch this film, some may hate it others will love it, but i certainly love it.

Father Ted - The Definitive Collection [1995]

Father Ted - The Definitive Collection [1995]

Rated: Suitable for 15 years and over
Staring: Dermot Morgan, Pauline McLynn, Ardal O'Hanlon, Frank Kelly
Director: Declan Lowney

Father Ted is one of those rare sitcoms that defies categorisation--it owes as much to Flann O'Brien and Samuel Beckett as it does to Monty Python--and its blend of satire, character comedy and anarchic surrealism has made it a cult favourite around the world. Exiled to remote Craggy Island, Father Ted shares a house with the breathtakingly stupid Father Dougal Maguire and the constantly inebriated Father Jack, who has a small vocabulary and a taste for furniture polish. Their housekeeper, Mrs Doyle, takes care of them with a never-ending supply of tea and sandwiches: "Go on now, Father, won't you try one? They're diagonal." Together they fight boredom by dressing up as Elvis, startling ducks at the fair and provoking nuns. --Simon Leake

The best thing you can say about Father Ted is that even though it is being constantly repeated on British and Irish TV channels it is still very funny. There is an almost irrestiable temptation to watch an episode when you find one by accident while channel hopping.

This is hard to explain to someone who hasn't seen the programme. Of the four main characters three are completely cartoonish. Dougal is thick, Jack is manky, Mrs Doyle is bizarre. Their characters don't change in any way but this doesn't stop them being funny.

Perhaps it's the litany of even more bizarre characters that drop in on Craggy Island in each episode. The acceptance that the stories are surreal and not to look for any sense or realism in them will also help your enjoyment.

Too much analysis from me. Whether you buy this DVD or just stop flicking to watch the second half of a random episode you will get plenty of laughs from Father Ted.

For anyone who hasn't watched the royal family the concept of sitting watching a family who are sitting watching tv may seem very non-comical... however i guarantee you will love it!

The casting is genius - led by Jim in his crusty jeans.
The writing is amazing - only this show can make you laugh one minute then be near to tears the next. (watch the queen of sheeba edition - you'll see what i mean)

Buy this - you wont be disappointed.

Enjoy

'Allo 'Allo! - Series 8 & 9 [1992]

'Allo 'Allo! - Series 8 & 9 [1992]

Rated: Parental Guidance
Staring: Gorden Kaye, Carmen Silvera, Vicki Michelle, Richard Marner, Guy Siner

By the time these final two series of ’Allo ‘Allo came around, even the most ardent fan of the show would have to concede that it had had its day. Many of the original cast had moved on, and even the original Herr Fleck, as played by Richard Gibson, had been replaced by the ninth series.

However, in hindsight, these last two series still have quite a bit to offer. Running to a combined thirteen episodes, and set a couple of years after the events of series seven, it finds ’Allo ‘Allo finally moving the British airmen on, but still gives lots of space for Gorden Kaye as Rene and Carmen Silvera as Edith to shine. With the supporting cast too firing on all cylinders, there are enough laughs to patch over the weak spots.

Furthermore, the end of series nine does also give ’Allo ‘Allo something that many sitcoms of the era never had the chance of: an ending. It gives some nice closure to one of the best sitcoms Britain produced in the 1980s and early 90s, and rounds the show off neatly. Thus, while these two series aren’t vintage ’Allo ‘Allo, they do contain any episodes that any fan of the show simply won’t want to miss. --Jon Foster

I've been enjoying re-watching this series so much!! The wacky humour and cheeky charm makes it an absolute delight and I've eagerly got stuck into this final collection of episodes from 1992 (can it really be that long ago?! Suddenly feeling very old!)

I wanted to point out that the episodes are presented in the WRONG ORDER here. The Christmas Special from 1991 should be at the beginning of disc 1 rather than at the end of disc 3, as this completely mucks up the continuity. So to repeat (and I shall say this only once) - WATCH THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL on disc 3 before you start watching series 8!

Enjoy!

The Mighty Boosh : Complete BBC Series 3 [2007]

The Mighty Boosh : Complete BBC Series 3 [2007]

Rated: Suitable for 15 years and over
Staring: Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding, Rich Fulcher, Michael Fielding, Dave Brown
Director: Paul King

Is there anything on television quite like The Mighty Boosh? Bluntly, who cares, for the ongoing adventures and antics of Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt remain a comedic treat, even if season three does have its up and down moments.

Let's temper that, quickly: The Mighty Boosh on one of its lesser days can still generate more laughs than 90% of other modern-day comedy series, and that's certainly the case with the six episodes here. Lead characters Howard and Vince are found working in the Nabootique this time, and it's not long before they're joined by some old favourites. Cue Bob Fossil, the sublime Shamen, and the Moon, among others.

If there's one downside to The Mighty Boosh's third season, it is perhaps a little too much self-indulgence, which occasionally tempers things. But then that's set against some brilliantly ambitious episodes, some of the finest surrealist humour on the telly, and the terrific Crack Fox.

There's little denying that as a show, The Mighty Boosh can easily be classed as bizarre, bonkers, and straight-out odd. But here, that's turned into the show's strength. And given the side-splitting laughs it continues to generate, we wouldn't have it any other way. --Jon Foster

Well, after reading the critical comments of previous posters I felt it my duty to add a more positive one! I do love how people are quite happy to sit in their armchairs with their Horlicks and pick apart someone's hard work(!)

True, Noel and Julian are more famous now due mainstream TV coverage and Noel seems to be in the right circles with all the coolest bands etc but I don't see how this is reflected in the material in Series 3!!!
They do use the same characters in this series as 2 but so what!?! It works!!!
They are some CLASSIC moments in it, the Journey to the Centre of Punk is totally off the wall seeing Vince dressing up as a range of weird and wonderful versions of himself! :)

I don't know why people begin to despise things when they become popular, that's the ultimate triumph for bands/artists/comedians etc - to become popular and all people can say is 'they've sold out' just because they are living it up!!! Selling out (in my opinion) is when you become something you're not due to pressures of the mainstream in whatever area you're in - they, as you have all kept repeating have stayed the same!

Whatever anyway - I love it and think they have created something new and exciting with ALL 3 SERIES and that is hard in this day and age as everyone seems to be copying old stuff albeit some in a strange paradox!

For those of us who have enjoyed having Clue playing in our kitchens and on the car radio for the best part of 35 years, this DVD of the live tour of shows is a gem. For many it will be an opportunity to watch Humph in one of his last public appearances and his comic genious burns as brightly as ever. The team give great support as does Colin Sell on the piano. The final moments, given over to a beautful trumpet solo by Humph as the show closes brought a tear to me eye, and I stood up and joined the audience in their ovation. One of the classic radio comedy shows loses nothing in the transfer to DVD format, it has already become a cherished item in my comedy collection. I also recommend the new CD of the tribite show to Humph broadcast on the BBC earlier on this year.

Love Actually [2003]

Love Actually [2003]

Rated: Suitable for 15 years and over
Staring: Rowan Atkinson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney
Director: Richard Curtis

With no fewer than eight couples vying for our attention, Love Actually is like the London Marathon of romantic comedies, and everybody wins. Having mastered the genre as the writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones's Diary, it appears that first-time director Richard Curtis is just like his screenplays: he just wants to be loved, and he'll go to absurdly appealing lengths to win our affection. With Love Actually, Curtis orchestrates a minor miracle of romantic choreography, guiding a brilliant cast of stars and newcomers as they careen toward love and holiday cheer in London, among them the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) who's smitten with his caterer (Martine McCutcheon); a widower (Liam Neeson) whose young son nurses the ultimate schoolboy crush; a writer (Colin Firth) who falls for his Portuguese housekeeper; a devoted wife and mother (Emma Thompson) coping with her potentially unfaithful husband (Alan Rickman); and a lovelorn American (Laura Linney) who's desperately attracted to a colleague. There's more--too much more--as Curtis wraps his Christmas gift with enough happy endings to sweeten a dozen other movies. That he pulls it off so entertainingly is undeniably impressive; that he does it so shamelessly suggests that his writing fares better with other, less ingratiating directors. --Jeff Shannon

I hate films like Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Sleepless in Seattle, all my mothers favourite romcom crap. I have never seen what attracts women to Hugh Grant. I went to see this film in the cinema to keep a friend company. However, I have been converted!!

This is a lovely, warm, christmas film, perfect for cosying up inside with the fire while its cold outside. It always puts me in the mood for christmas and snow, and to be honest I'm not a big fan of them either! I also think this is Hugh at his peak.

Romcom fans will love it, and for those who dont normally like this sort of film, you could be surprised. Whilst there isn't any real gritty substance to the characters, they all have different stories and there might just be enough 'main' storylines to keep you interested. Cracking cast, big names like Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson and Keira Knightley, the others all put in an excellent performance, including a few of the cast from Channel 4 series 'Teachers', and some of the kids.

Excellent soundtrack too.

Made Of Honour [2008]

Made Of Honour [2008]

Rated: Suitable for 12 years and over
Staring: Patrick Dempsey, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin McKidd, Kathleen Quinlan, Sydney Pollack
Director: Paul Weiland

Patrick Dempsey makes his full transition to rom-com stardom in Made of Honor, flashing those winning dimples and twinkly baby blues to full fetching effect. The camera truly loves him, and his considerable affable charm calls to mind early Hugh Grant, winsome even in utter confusion. Dempsey plays Tom, a nice guy but a serial dater with a girlfriend in every zip code of New York. Michelle Monaghan is Hannah, Tom's BFF since college, who's decided she wants marriage and family. When she becomes unexpectedly engaged to Colin (Journeyman's Kevin McKidd, rather McDreamy himself), Tom realises what the viewer's known all along--that Hannah is in fact his dream woman. It's When Harry Met Sally... meets My Best Friend's Wedding--but thankfully, Dempsey's Tom is far more sympathetic than Julia Roberts' snide schemer. The plot isn't exactly full of surprises, but the cast--and their amazing chemistry--are so winning that the film makes for the perfect date movie. Not only are all three leads charming in their own way, but the rich cinematography manages to make both Manhattan and the Scottish countryside look like glorious edens, one urban, one windswept. Monaghan is a revelation, quietly lovely as a young Carla Bruni, but with a flinty gumption that makes her all the more appealing. The supporting cast is rich, too, especially Sydney Pollack as Tom's serially marrying dad. (At his dad's umpteenth wedding, Tom's new arm-candy "stepmom" gets tipsy and overly affectionate with guests as her new husband looks on fondly: "Ah... drunk as the night I first met her.") But at the core of the film are its big heart, and the connection between Tom and Hannah, deep and wide whether they end up just best friends or more. And the delight for viewers is knowing they'll be just as glowy either way.-- A.T. Hurley
