A great little product that's invaluable when travelling., 2007-03-15 The Collins Phrase books (I have used several of the new editions including French, Spanish and Italian while travelling around Europe) are great. They are easily navigable with colour coding for different sections - all the essentials you need for getting by on holiday - shopping, using transport, accommodation, top tips - my favourite bit though, and that which I couldn't do with out, is the awesome menu reader! By far my favourite part of the any holiday is eating and the format is nice and compact so can fit in your handbag/purse easily. They're really discreet for bringing out at the dinner table, pretty much fitting in your hand, and avoiding the truly obvious tourist look! They're good and cheap too so I will be picking one up for any relevant country I visit.

Good Rapid French- better with an iPod!, 2007-02-13 Bought Rapid French Vol.1 a year ago and had listenend to the product sitting at home in front of the CD player. Gave up with it after two weeks as the effort of taking an hour off from my schedule wasn't worth it for me.
Gave the product another try after buying an iPod and since then I have found it worked much better- the background music and the rhythmic repititions of English phrases and the French translation immediately whilst set to 'techno' music seemed to burn into my head well- perhaps too well as I developed sinusitis for the first ten days. Was worth it in the end!
Rapid French Vol.1 (and an iPod!) has been the easiest and most effective way of listening and learning basic French- its effortless and I can now listen to French radio podcasts and pick out some words and get the general gist of what they're saying.
Only complaint is that 200 words are a bit basic, but will remedy that when I get Vol. 2!

I love this book!, 2006-11-14 I don't know why but I do! When it first arrived I opened it to be greated with "what the hell is this going on about?!?!?!". So it went to one side for a while..... Well, after studying for a while and learning more from my course and to be honest more "beginner freindly" titles I thought I'd dig it out and give it another pop. I was not dissapointed! The book deals with many little extras that other books don't, such as voiced/unvoiced letters, a good section of help with stress and pronunciation. It deals with the various cases well with nice examples and good questions for you to test yourself, I found the vocabulary good - especially when starting out as it has an english pheonetic bit to help you unlike many books in which you are left to assume your reading of cyrillic is right.
I really recommend this excellent book.

Brilliant way to learn, 2004-09-19 In my quest to learn Latin, having been disappointed by other books, this was recommended to me by a friend. After reading the positive reviews on Amazon I decided to buy it.I was not disappointed in it at all. This was exactly what i was looking for in a book: It had stories to translate that focussed around one family so there was a familiar thread to them. Sometimes it even has (although in a very 'learning is fun' way) humour. It had a gradual increase of vocabulary, giving any new words in a story down the side of it. It had a full dictionary of all the words used in the book at the back of it, along with a section on all the grammar taught. The grammar was introduced at the right rate and there were exersizes to test how well you had understood the new points. There were three-four exersizes every chapter (with 20 chapters in total), along with the translations. The end of the book leads nicely on to the start of the next one so it is not difficult to continue. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn to read Latin. You will not regret buying it!

one of the best of its kind, 2007-11-12 This book is easy to follow and packed with practical information even beyond my expectation. I had been looking for a book that entails French verb conjugation comprehensively. I am really pleased to encounter this book. Among others, I found the "English-French verb index" on the back part of it very useful. This book does not intend to list word by word how to conjugate all the French verbs. But the index can guide you to spot easily the form of the model verb that has a similar conjugation, which means that this book can almost be used as an all-inclusive reference book on French verb conjugation. This means a lot to me, because I don't have to consult other reference books.
Highly recommended!

Un, deux, trois - as easy as 1,2,3, 2003-07-24 This is a well laid out and beautifully illustrated book. The reader is taken on a journey through different environments (farm, market, by the river etc.) each of which is brought to life by a selection of traditional French rhymes and songs. If at all possible you should also get the audiocassette which accompanies the book. The songs and rhymes are performed by native French speakers (children and adults) which encourages a good accent and the tunes are a wonderful memory aid. My children love it.

    Poetry (Jumpstart), 2008-12-30 Poetry (Jumpstart)
I am a fan of Pie Corbett and have not been disapponted with this excellent book. It is crammed full of writing and reading ideas for poetry learning with increased enjoyment and fun. I feel sure that using these activities will support the children's love for reading and writing of all genres. I also bought the Jumpstart storytelling and the Jumpstart creative writing books with this one and now I have a pocket full of teaching and learning diamonds to dip into for all sorts of learning objectives, but mostly to lead all the children to love language and stories. He suggests to achieve a poetry loving environment we begin staff meetings with a poem. There's a thought!
