It Really Works !, 2007-11-14 By far the easiest method I have come across so far. I use it mainly in my car driving to and from work - it doesn't require a lot of concentration like others I have tried because it repeats each phrase several times (in a non-boring way) so it does not distract from driving.
I could really do with part 2 now and I hope they make one soon!

Highly recommended, 2008-10-12 Whether you are school studying for GCSE Spanish, undertaking a Spanish course at night school or maybe planning to live in Spain, this 3CD learning pack is highly recommended. It can be used instead of using a text book, or alongside one. The exercises are interesting and enjoyable.
The course is not convincing or too complicated.

A very very clever man indeed , 2008-05-12 Let me start with on a good point and say that michels technique is a true work of art
Its only when you have listened to the tapes a few times(and you will need to in order to completely digest it) that you realise how clever he is at making his point.
It really is as close as you can get to painless language tuition.
When I had ingested this course i was convinced that I could speek fluent french, however it is only the introductory course so you will be needing the avanced course after.Which is also exellent, and much more involved.
Now for the bad bit:
I can not for the life of me understand how Michel could have let the course be published with the female american student!!
SHE IS A MORON.
I have never in my whole life been forced to listen to someone as irritating as her.i dont even know her,yet i found myself wanting to strangle her.
It is a shame because she did make it hard to listen to after not a very long time.In fact I edited her out of my cds,now the course is more like the Michel Thomas language builder, which I actually prefered, you can only listen to someone elses mistakes for so long before they start to get annoying especialy as you are improving at the same time.
Having said that I still got a great deal from this course and I highly recommend it.

Great cd set!, 2008-08-21 This is a fun and enjoyable cd set that is easy to follow. The example spoken and written phrases are exactly what you want to hear and see when you are new to a language.I liked the fact that is all seems modern and not at all like the old fashioned text that we learned in school.
I downloaded the discs to my Mp3 and made much more prgress than I expected leading up to our visit to France. Highly recommended!

Excellent for pronunciation, 2007-10-07 Just a quick note to cover a point that I think has not been /stressed/ (!) enough in the earlier reviews.
This CD will really help you get your pronunciation correct, which is absolutely vital. With other courses, you may not tell if you are putting the stresses in the right places and pronouncing the verb endings correctly and with enough clarity (e.g. "o" as in "tot" not as in "low" and differentiating clearly between "e" and "a" endings). With other courses you could think you can speak the language and then try it on a Spanish person and just get a "Qué?" in response.
With Michel Thomas, you can hear the other students make the mistakes you are making and Michel corrects them. Repeatedly. Repeatedly. Until. They. Get. It. and hence until you get it.
When I pronounced a word correctly and the rubbish student was still getting it wrong, I actually felt quite pleased with myself.
You may not learn that quickly with MT, but you make sure that the foundations are right.

Pretty good, in it's market - Another attempt at this review!, 2008-03-09 If you want to learn a language, there are two ways to do it. Up sticks and immerse yourself in the culture and language or go to lessons with a good teacher. You can't learn to speak a language from CDs or Tapes.
You can, however, gain an understanding and ability to communicate at a basic level and in this respect Tony Buzan's mindmaps are an admirable way of going beyond phrasebook muddle and confusion. The two disc approach, with one "structured" disc to be used with the A5 book provided and the other to play anywhere for a simple way of immersing yourself in the vocab you have learned.
The course is structured around real life events, at the bar, in the restaurant etc, and gives a good view of the basics of Italian.
Mind maps offer a way to structure thoughts and fit learning languages well. 1 Star deducted for the old fashioned and wasteful package that the book and discs came in!

Best of the bunch?, 2008-10-07 So far I have found this course to be great value for money: it is not going to bring me very far in conversational Polish, but it succeeds in offering a *good start*. The narrators speak clearly, and take time to break up some of the more difficult pronunciations into manageable sections. The course is clearly geared to help the tourist find her way when arriving in Poland, but if like me you are just trying to learn the language for interest and a challenge, you could do a lot worse than this value priced offering. For what it is: 9/10

Stretching, 2007-03-07 I worked in France twenty years ago and have just decided to try and reactivate the French that I learned by purchasing this advanced course. I have not used the Foundation course but I slipped into this course easily. Michel Thomas has a very easy manner, and the presence of the students helps make it real. They make mistakes too, and their accents are no better than mine which makes me feel better. Thomas concentrates on the construction of sentences. In this advanced set the focus is on past, future and conditional tenses with many complicated constructions and variations. Some of these are so extreme I really couldn't imagine using them ('If you had told me about it I would have bought it' etc). However, he breaks it down well and it is very motivating to "get" the idea. The course concentrates on verbs and their usage. There are very few nouns here - you'll need to buy a dictionary for those. But you will master the use of the language in all the common tenses. Recommended.

Establishing basic groundwork painlessly, 2008-04-08 I have the set of 8 CDs & listened to them in my car. This has proved the easiest method I have tried & certainly provides an excellent starting point. I agree, vocabulary is not extensive but I now feel confident enough to develop this with further textbooks and reading.
Thanks to Mr. Thomas - a great help.

Dawn French
By
Random House Audiobooks
It's become a cliché in Britain to call somebody in the entertainment field a national institution -- but that's exactly what Dawn French is. As both comedienne and actress (the latter in both comedy and straight parts), she has become one of the best loved entertainers in the country. Her range is not wide (unlike her dimensions -- and that's the sort of joke she'd crack), but she is utterly winning in everything he does. And that quality continues in Dear Fatty, a truly entertaining memoir of an event-packed life. The form of the book is a series of letters by French, conjuring her transformation from a West Country RAF girl to a star of the cult alternative comedy group The Comic Strip. This was followed by the groundbreaking all-female Girls on Top (which did much to establish the position of women in British comedy), the astonishing success of the TV series French and Saunders (with French's equally talented friend Jennifer Saunders) and the sitcom The Vicar of Dibley, where French's wickedly sardonic touch keeps the tweeness of the basic situation -- female vicar in a rustic town -- at bay. For French, early dreams of becoming a ballerina or an air hostess came to nothing, but the loss to the worlds of dance and aviation was a gain for TV audiences. All of that, of course, is covered in this frequently hilarious and often moving collection. We are invited into her most personal relationships with (among others) her mother and father, her husband (fellow comedian Lenny Henry), and, of course, her most important comedic ally, Jennifer Saunders. Everything French describes -- from the agonies of being a teenager to the death of her father -- and (of course) the way in which society defines her by her generous size -- is treated with a highly diverting insight. Fans of Dawn French's TV appearances will lap it up, but Dear Fatty has a lot more to offer, even to those only vaguely familiar with her. But is anyone in Britain only vaguely familiar with Dawn French? --Barry Forshaw
    Quirky, Touching, Funny, 2009-01-03
Dawn French is one of my favourite icons - always has been, always will be.
This is simply one of the best autobiographies that I've ever read. Her letters to her friends and family are extremely funny at times, and also very sweet and touching. I laughed out loud a lot and found myself often having to explain to my family why I was giggling so much.
I'm sad to leave behind the quirky, yet somewhat down-to-earth life and the offbeat thoughts of a lovely person.
It's well worth a read, especially if you're a fan.
