Never sorry about this., 2003-12-02 I loved this. I was stuck in a traffic jam, and have rarely enjoyed an hour-long journey to work so much.
Too young (just!) to have listened to the programme from the start, it was good to hear how it evolved. From the very first episode you can spot all the familiar games, and you cannot imagine anyone other than Humph being allowed to chair it. Oh, and the points system used to work too, although nobody cared!
I'm Sorry I Haven't a Desert Island is also a gem: there I was, listening to the great and good and Neil Kinnock describing their favourite rounds, nodding my head in agreement.
The show has survived the loss of the incredibly funny Willie Rushton. Stephen Fry, Sandy Toksvig and Paul Merton have fitted in well but, for me, Jeremy Hardy will always take a lot of beating, particularly in the music rounds. I do worry for the future though - could they ever manage without Humph? Certainly Samantha would find it tough, sitting on someone else's right hand.
Put this in a box and throw sugar at it if you like. Or better still, buy it and play it again and again until it wears out.
The only trouble with Clue is that now and again you find yourself unable to hum the original words to the original tune. Love me Tender can really only be sung properly to the tune of the Archers...

calling all Charlie and Lola fans!, 2007-02-16 My little boy LOVES Charlie and Lola and so this audio CD is great.
It's great to listen to in the car (so much better than nursery rhymes!) and has made bed time better too - he wants to stay quiet in bed so he can hear the stories. What a result!

Beautiful, 2008-01-05 This is a wonderful book capturing the imagination of both young and old. For those of us who grew up with this it is full of nostalgia. For those newcomers like my daughters it is a song which is repeated over and over again. The illustrations are beautiful and there is a lot to explore on each page. My only criticism is that the lyrics have been changed to incorporate little girls as well as little boys. In my opinion this unnecessary and takes away a part of the oroginal story. Otherwise this is a great purchase for youngsters and oldies alike.

Humble, inspiring and beautifully written memoir, 2008-11-05 I was overwhelmed by how good this memoir is. Having also grown up in Jakarta, Indonesia and lived in Manoa, Hawaii (where Barack's parents met) he captures the essence of both places beautifully, and I can verify the accuracy and authenticity of the cultural descriptions. Barack describes different cultures extremely well (as we might expect from someone whose mother was an anthropologist), as well as the challenges he faced and the decisions he made. This book is of a far higher quality than that written by most writers, let alone politicians. I quote him in my book on finding inspiration through travel Travelling Magically: How to Turn Your Journey into a Life-changing Experience. There is more about Hawaiian culture and the beautiful valley of Manoa for those readers who are interested in my first book [[ASIN:1594770093 The Sacred Power of Huna: Spirituality and Shamanism in Hawai'i], which describes my journey towards getting a Ph.D.in Anthropology in Hawaii. I would highly recommend Barack Obama's memoir to all those who want to know more about the world, and who want to change their place in it.

Just when it seems that there cannot possibly be another twist to the Harry Potter tale, Stephen Fry dons his haughtiest and naughtiest tones to bring Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to vibrant life on audio. Harry Potter has spent the first 10 years of his life at the mercy of the dreadful Dursleys--the aunt, uncle and fat, spoilt brat of a cousin who reluctantly gave him a home after the death of his mother and father. But on his 11th birthday Harry discovers that he is no ordinary boy, and despite the best efforts of his hideous relatives he escapes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to begin his new life as a trainee wizard. And the rest, as they say, is history... As Harry battles against the evils thrown in his path, Stephen Fry injects the proceedings with a wry, dry and extremely contagious humour that perfectly suits the tale, wringing out the best in Harry and his cohorts as they get to grips with their new lives at the sharp end of Hogwarts. Fry's innate upper-class drone is perfectly suited to the telling of this most magical tale, cracking into the high-pitched squawking of Hermione the swat, or the gentle tones of the firm but fair Dumbledore, or the evil sniping of slimey Snape at precisely the right moments. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a fine story and much has been written about its success but until you have heard Fry's cracking reading of this most magical of stories then you simply haven't lived. As with any audio book, this one is perfect for car journeys and an ideal way of introducing reluctant readers to the magic that is Harry Potter. (Ages 9 and over) --Susan Harrison
The first of a great series!, 2005-08-03 What a fabulous read! The first book in the series, the Philosophers Stone, will grip your imagination and hold onto it untill you have read the entire book!Harry Potter, an eleven year old boy, has a past that will change his future. When Harry was one year old, the Dark Lord Voldemort killed his parents. But he couldn't kill Harry. Instead Harry is left with a lightning bolt scar for the rest of his life. Harry is shocked when he is told that he is a wizard. This means a new school (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry), making new friends and learning how to turn a matchstick into a needle! I think this book is very imaginative. I mean who would have thought that you could fit a massive castle in the middle of London and teach magic? If you read this book you will experience J.K. Rowling's exquisite imagination!(Katherine, 11)

Listen and enjoy ( and remember Animal Magic!), 2008-04-15 I'd always enjoyed being read and later reading myself the Just So Stories. With children of my own I started them on these stories and having a cd of them means we can enjoy them on the move. The joy of hearing Jonnie Morris' super animal voice characterisations just adds to the enjoyment - takes me back to watching Animal Magic - deep joy!
Four year old daughter enjoys listening to the stories but my nine year old son has become a great fan - this now regularly is on his cd player in his room.
Buy this and you'll all be able to listen together and enjoy.

All 4 stories, 2003-08-24 This CD set is fantastic value. If you are reading this you are obviously an RD fan and what makes these CD's so special is that they are read by the author. Not only is Roald Dahl one of the best authors of all time but he has the great ability to tell the story exactly as it was meant to be read. My 2 children [aged 8&6] adore this at bedtime or on a long journey. All the stories appeal to both boys, girls and parents. We all know the tales, but they are a pleasure to listen to. You will not regret this GREAT buy!
