A Great Start To A Great Series, 2000-05-31 At first I was a bit wary about reading about characters in the Galaxy Far Far Away 5000 years before the ones we all know and love. However, this was an excellent story and the art is excellent too.

Continuing the Tales of the Jedi, 2002-09-21 This is a great story, but you must read the previous Tales first, culminating in the Sith War, or you will be lost as to what has gone on. It is set 10 years later, and we see Ulic in a different light as he reluctantly becomes teacher to Nomi Sunrider. I often wondered what happened to the characters after the Sith War, and this story answers most of my questions. It has elements we expect in all SW stories, action and excitement, and a brooding undercurrent. A good ending too, and my only gripe is we have had to wait several years for it. Don't make us wait too long for the next installment.

A pretty darn good book, 2005-11-04 This interesting book is part of the Knights of the Old Republic series. The series is a collection of graphic novels that takes the reader to the Old Republic, thousands of years before the events of The Phantom Menace. This graphic novel contains two stories. The first one is Ulic Qel-Droma and the Beast Wars of Onderon, in which a young Jedi learns that a Jedi must have more than courage - he must have patience and perception. The second story is the Sage of Nomi Sunrider, in which a Jedi apprentice, who has rejected violence, learns that to defeat evil violence is too often unavoidable. My twelve-year-old son is a big Star Wars fan, and he picked up this book so that he could keep on learning about the Star Wars universe. Overall, we found this to be a pretty darn good book. The illustration work is very good, and the stories are quite interesting. We enjoyed the action and the many different creatures and races that are the hallmark of Star Wars. Yep, we both enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it to you.

excellent artwork, but over-simplified story, 2001-10-31 I first came across this book in an article about the technical side of producing the artwork (a mixture of hand-drawing and 3D-rendering) and was encouraged to buy it. A collection of several comics, the action takes place in a world not quite like ours; it's sci-fi, but without the usual techno-rubbish and embued with a deep sense of spiritualism that is of the old-fashioned, scare-you-rigid kind. The artwork is well thought through and very impressive, a very long way from some of the awful stuff that gets published. I was pleasantly surprised by the story as well; I'm a sucker for decent narrative and this first book will suit anyone who likes a pretty good love story, but this is where my complaint comes in. The story, I feel, has become somewhat subseded to the 'look' of the book; we don't really get to see what the characters are thinking beyond the superficial, as though the detail of story has been cut out because of the natural length of the individual comic books. Maybe this is just beginners nerves, however, because it does get better towards the end. However, don't let this spoil your enjoyment, I think that, although the story has been done before, this is an ambitious foray and deserves applause. I'm looking forward to the second one.

The Tales of the Jedi series continues in fine style!, 2000-09-09 Although I really love Star Wars, I was starting to get a bit annoyed with the sudden change to everything that had Star Wars on the cover being prequel related. However, I picked up the first two Trade Paperbacks of the Tales of the Jedi series (The Golden Age of the Sith and the Fall of the Sith Empire) and my interest was rejuvenated. Here were some interesting stories set even before the prequel trilogy. With Knights of the Old Republic, there is a 1000 year leap forward in time from Fall of the Sith Empire. There are 2 stories here, one focusing on Uulic Qel-Droma and one focusing on Nomi Sunrider, two of the main characters of the next 4 Tales of the Jedi story arcs. As an introduction to the characters this book is excellent. Ulic, as a Jedi apprentice, starts to become worried by the dark side, while Nomi's tale is a tragedy that turns into a relatively happy end. The art for Ulic's story is excellent, although the art for Nomi's story, while being good, is not quite up to par with Chriss Gossets. If you need a change from the original trilogy or Episode 1, you should really pick up these books
